Last night saw the FA Cup third round draw take place. Chelsea fans were waiting in hope of a good draw to put them on their way to winning the competition, 50 years after the 1970 FA Cup win over Leeds.

However, it was a slightly underwhelming draw for those in Blue. Chelsea draw Nottingham Forest in a domestic cup for the third year in a row. In fact, it is the exact same draw as both sides were given at this stage in the competition last year.

Chelsea will be hoping that the fixture follows the pattern of the last two years. In the League Cup game in 2017, the Blues romped to a resounding 5-1 win. This included a hattrick from current substitute striker Michy Batshuayi.

The following year, in the FA Cup, the sides met again at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea finished 2-0 winners, courtesy of an Alvaro Morata brace.

It is important that the Blues do not complacency creep in despite their recent successes over the Championship side. Forest are pushing for promotion into the Premier League next year and are likely to be a stronger outfit this time out.

They sit 4th in the Championship and despite being eight points behind Leeds United in the automatic promotion places, they do have a game in hand.

Chelsea will need to be aware of the threat players such as Sammy Ameobi and Joao Carvalho possess. Forest are a side who must be respected, to avoid an early exit in the competition.

Fans will certainly have preferred drawing a Championship side than one of the top six. Here is some fans reaction to the draw on Twitter.
