'Felt sick': Tuchel says 23-year-old was in Chelsea's squad to face Norwich right until very 'last minute' last night

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he decided at the “last minute” to leave Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic out of the squad against Norwich City last night.

The Blues secured a 3-1 away win against Norwich on Thursday in the Premier League. Trevoh Chalobah, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz all found the back of the net for the visitors at Carrow Road.

Despite the fact the focus at Stamford Bridge is around the restrictions imposed on Chelsea yesterday after owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, the players and staff stuck together to beat Norwich in impressive style.

Tuchel shared in his post-match interview that he only decided to leave out Pulisic from the squad on the day of the game.

The 23-year-old attacker was completely absent against Norwich due to illness, which is a shame because he’s looked in great form lately.

He’s had five goals and four assists so far this season across all competitions, but like so much of his Chelsea career it’s been stop-start.

“Pulisic had two bad nights, felt sick and had a change of body temperature – he felt hot, then cold, then hot, then cold. He did not feel good this morning and we decided to leave him at home and hopefully get rest and good sleep and get back soon. So that was a last-minute change in the squad,” Tuchel said.

Best Chelsea attack forming

Mount and Havertz, who both scored yesterday, are showing they belong in the front three.

That leaves Pulisic and Ziyech as the most likely to complete the trio given their respective form, albeit both are currently sidelined.

Romelu Lukaku will be demanding a spot in the XI, but it seems impossible to fit him into the best side when Havertz is in this kind of mood. Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi aren’t quite at the required level right now, too.

Pulisic’s got the individual talent to stay in Tuchel’s line-up. Can his body hold up, though?

It’s nice to discuss all the great things happening on the pitch right now during Tuchel’s reign.
