Chelsea supporters on social media went into a frenzy when they learned that Reece James is set to start for England against Scotland tonight.
According to the Telegraph, Gareth Southgate will reintroduce James and Luke Shaw at full-back for the European Championship crunch clash this evening.
Both of the defenders sat out the opening group game win over Croatia last weekend, but seem back in their national manager’s good books.
Blues fans felt James’ inclusion was long overdue and couldn’t wait to potentially witness him playing under the Wembley lights once again.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
James arrived at the Euros as a Champions League winner and one of the country’s leading right-backs.
Unfortunately for him, Southgate added another three players in his position to the squad that ended last season strongly as well.
Kyle Walker was a Premier League champion with Manchester City, as was Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier in La Liga.
Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool forced his way back into England contention until he suffered an injury in their first pre-tournament-friendly fixture.
Walker got the nod from Southgate to start the Croatia game, based on his experience.
However, the young blood is apparently now coming for his throne.
If James is in the initial XI, it will be his first taste of a major international competition.
But big stages are nothing new to the 21-year-old, so pressure should not be an issue.
