Frank Lampard claims Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is as fit as he’s ever been
Frank Lampard has claimed that Chelsea’s senior forward Olivier Giroud looks as fit as he’s ever been.
Giroud, who joined the Blues back in 2018 and was an Antonio Conte signing, has been restored to the starting XI recently as a reward for his performances.
The left-footed striker has scored five goals in his last two starts, which is why it’ll be a surprise if he’s dropped for Saturday night’s trip to Everton in the Premier League.
Aged 34, the France international has previously stated he wants to be involved next summer at the European Championships with his country, and for that he needs to be playing regular football.
His current form has made it difficult to leave him out and he remains one of the most underrated forwards in the world.
Lampard believes that he’s looking at his peak fitness right now despite turning 34 in September.
“I look at him physically at the moment and I do see him as strong and as physically fit as he’s ever been. You can see that’s he fresh and young in the mind,” Lampard said on The 5th Stand app.
There is often a perception nowadays that players completely drop off after their 30th birthday, but that couldn’t be further from the truth in some cases.
It’s no surprise to see someone like Giroud thriving still at his age given his style of play, as he’s an intelligent striker that is so lethal in the penalty area and his game has never been reliant on pace.
