Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that attacker Christian Pulisic remains unavailable for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester United.
The Blues host United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night in a pivotal fixture, as they look to strengthen their fourth-placed position in the table.
Fifth-placed Sheffield United are sat only two points behind at the front of a chasing pack having played a game more, while sixth-placed Tottenham are four points adrift after the same amount of fixtures.
Chelsea are entering a crucial run of league fixtures following a return after the international break, as well as the Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich on the horizon.
Lampard has given an update that Pulisic will continue to watch from the stands on Monday night despite resuming training.
The 21-year-old has impressed since his arrival in the summer from Borussia Dortmund, but he’s been injured since 1 January with a groin problem and still isn’t quite ready to make his comeback.
“Christian Pulisic trained with the Under-23s today, which is hopefully a short period until he comes back into our training. He won’t be fit [against United],” Lampard said, as quoted by Football.London.
Pulisic has been a serious miss during his time on the sidelines and it has put into perspective how important he is.
The USA international has quickly become a real favourite around Stamford Bridge, with his pace and directness something that adds a spark to the attack.
He is a skilful winger that has six goals and six assists in just 23 games across all competitions this campaign.
It sounds like his return isn’t a million miles away and Chelsea desperately need him back firing in the first-team.
