Kurt Zouma is someone who deserves his chance in the Chelsea first-team for the new season and the latest comments from head coach Frank Lampard about him are a relief.
The 24-year-old is back at Stamford Bridge following an impressive season-long loan spell at Everton during the last campaign.
The Telegraph previously reported in June that Everton have opened talks with the Blues about signing Zouma on a permanent basis.
But the centre-back has been involved in the Chelsea pre-season tour and started in the 1-0 defeat to Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale on Friday.
After the pre-season match, Lampard confirmed (official Twitter) that he wants Zouma to stay for the upcoming season and believes he can benefit the squad.
Zouma can certainly push for a regular spot at centre-back at Chelsea and it looks Lampard is willing to give him the chance.
He is an athletic defender that has a great balance of both power and pace, something which makes him a real force in the Premier League.
The only way the club should allow his exit is if he’s desperate to leave, but it looks like he could knuckle down and fight for a position alongside the likes of David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Zouma looked the real deal before his horrific knee injury against Manchester United, but has rediscovered his form and confidence out on loan to get back to his best.
He’s still relatively young aged just 24 and looks a natural fit in the heart of defence.
