Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that first-team duo Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva are both unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League fixture at home to Southampton.

The Blues host the Saints this weekend as domestic action resumes and they are going to be without two senior players, as it’s been confirmed that goalkeeper Mendy and defender Silva are both not in the squad.

Mendy is missing the league game with an injury he’s picked up during the international break and the new shot-stopper will be frustrated that he won’t be able to knuckle down with a run of games.

The 28-year-old colossus joined from Rennes in the summer window and has played two Chelsea games so far, but he’ll now be replaced by either Willy Caballero or Kepa Arrizabalaga against Southampton.

Meanwhile, Brazilian centre-back Silva has been ruled out of the match due to the fact that he’s had a long trip back from South America and he played in his nation’s World Cup qualifier against Peru on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old defender is another fresh face at the club that has only recently been integrated into the XI and he will drop out of the side on Saturday, but perhaps that means he will be involved a few days later when Chelsea host Sevilla in the Champions League group stages.
