Gary Lineker claims Chelsea star Mason Mount can play alongside Jack Grealish for England

Gary Lineker has insisted that Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish can play together in the national side, something they did for England on Thursday night when they lined up in the same XI at Wembley Stadium.

The two creative Premier League stars were involved in England’s 3-0 friendly win at home to Republic of Ireland, which was a warm up match before a Nations League double header in the next few days.

Despite the comparison that’s often made between them, Mount started in a central position for Gareth Southgate’s team with England teammate Grealish further up the pitch as a left-winger.

Grealish claimed post-match on Thursday that he’s a huge fan of Chelsea ace Mount and feels they aren’t competing for the same position.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

“I love Mason, it’s a bit annoying actually because he probably gets a little bit of stick at times from it,” he told Football Daily.

“I’ve always been close with Mason. I think he’s an absolutely terrific player and I don’t really think we are fighting for the same spot to be honest.

“I think if anything Mason is underrated, he deserves all the credit he gets and I think people who know about football will understand just how good he is.”

Former England international Lineker has weighed in on the debate about the duo on Twitter by claiming he fully supports Grealish’s claims and has called them both “wonderfully talented”.

Grealish will now be focusing on trying to make himself a nailed-on England starter and has a tough job competing with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling for a wide position.

Meanwhile, Mount is developing into a central midfielder despite his versatility and England are perhaps lacking in that area of the pitch.

He’s clearly a player that Southgate rates highly and his England chances should continue if he keeps up his Chelsea form.
