Glen Johnson has given a glowing verdict on the quality of Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, who he feels is underrated on the ball.
The Blues signed Chilwell in the summer in a £50million deal from Leicester City (Sky Sports) and he’s quickly become an important player at Stamford Bridge.
Despite being an England international, some had doubts over the size of his transfer fee.
But the 24-year-old has answered those emphatically.
Chilwell has established himself as the first-choice option at left-back for Frank Lampard’s side ahead of both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.
He is an attack-minded full-back renowned for his pace and athleticism.
Ex-Chelsea defender Johnson though has been to keen to point out where he’s underrated.
“I love the way he (Chilwell) gets on with his business, he doesn’t do anything too flashy, he doesn’t get involved with much. He’s a lot better on the ball that people give him credit for,” Johnson told Premier League Daily on Optus Sport.

Chilwell has arguably been the pick of the bunch when it comes to Chelsea’s summer signings.
The left-footer has lived up to the billing in terms of his work-rate and sheer pace, but it’s a fair assessment that he looks so composed on the ball and more often than not makes the right decision with his passing.
His defensive work still needs brushing up on, but he’s so consistent in the wide areas.
The left-back has weighed in with two goals and five assists this season in all competitions to highlight his attacking threat, which is why he’s becoming a fan favourite.
