Even a group of rival Premier League supporters on social media agreed with Chelsea followers that Mason Mount should be the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The six-man shortlist was announced earlier today, with representatives from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham United, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Although majority of the players had backing from their own contingent, a portion of Anfield and Emirates fans all felt Mount was a worthy winner.

Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

Admittedly, Mount was in fine company amongst the half dozen nominees.

Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mason Greenwood all enjoyed excellent spells at different times in the season.

But arguably the two maintained their levels to the highest standard was Mount and Foden.

It says a lot that the young English pair faced off in last weekend’s Champions League final, with the Chelsea star coming out on top.

Granted, Foden finished as a Premier League winner and was included in the PFA Player of the Year award as well.

However, Mount just edged his compatriot in the grandest European stage with the world’s eyes firmly fixed on his display.

Rivalries will be turned to partnerships when the duo embark on this summer’s European Championships with England.
