Hazard Extension
Eden Hazard is set to sign a contract extension at Chelsea, according to various reports. The Belgian’s current contract expires in the summer of 2021, and the two parties are set to sign a deal to extend it for a further year. Hazard has been linked with a move to Spanish champions Real Madrid for the past few months, and the news that the 26-year-old is set to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge will be very good news for Antonio Conte, and Chelsea fans.
Zappacosta Debate
After Davide Zappacosta’s wonder strike on his home debut against Qarabag FK in the Champions League on Tuesday night, one question was on everybody’s mind: Was it a cross, or was it a shot? Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has seemed to end the debate, claiming that the Italian’s goal was in fact supposed to be a cross.
“He told me he was aiming to cross.” Conte confirmed in a post-match press conference.
Scott Promoted
Young midfielder Kyle Scott has been promoted into the Chelsea first team, and has been handed a first team shirt number this season. The American youth international has been given the number 36 shirt at Stamford Bridge, formerly worn by fellow Academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace. Scott has already been a part of the first team squad for a while, and was named on the bench for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, and the first two Premier League fixtures of the season.
Morata Mistake
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has suggested that selling Alvaro Morata to Chelsea this summer could have been a mistake. The Spaniard signed for Chelsea in a record deal, and Frenchman Zidane has regrets about selling his striker.
“Looking at our squad, we may be missing a number nine,
“I would have liked Morata to stay but he wanted to play more first-team football elsewhere, which was his decision.
“We tried to get in another player, last year we had Morata and Mariano and now only Borja Mayoral is in the squad.”
