‘Honestly a cheat code’, ‘Amazing’: Some Chelsea fans rave about star’s display in Super Cup win

Chelsea won the UEFA Super Cup with a penalty shootout win over Villarreal on Wednesday night – and some Blues fans on Twitter raved about the performance of 30-year-old N’Golo Kante.

The Blues beat Spanish opposition Villarreal to clinch silverware in a meeting between last season’s Champions League winner and Europa League winner.

The game finished 1-1 after extra time, something which certainly wasn’t ideal with the Premier League kickstarting this weekend.

Hakim Ziyech, who unfortunately went off with a shoulder injury, opened the scoring in the first half. But, Gerard Moreno sent the game the distance with his equaliser.

Chelsea eventually won the trophy after a 6-5 penalty shootout victory and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga turned out to be a heroic late substitute. The Spanish number two made a couple of key saves from the spot.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media named Kante as one of the standout individuals on Wednesday night.

Kante, who’s been integral since he first arrived at Chelsea in 2016, looks like once again he’ll be relied upon heavily in the new campaign.

The Frenchman is an all-action midfielder that’s developed under each manager.

Of course, he’s still filled with the same defensive instincts that made him famous at Leicester City. His ability to intercept and tackle is priceless to the Blues. However, his game on the ball has improved. It’s definitely an underrated part of how he plays when he drives forward in possession into the final third.

He played 65 minutes against Villarreal before coming off, so hopefully he’s fresh to go against Crystal Palace.

Here are some Blues fans hailing Kante:
