How Chelsea could line up against Norwich City with Kante ruled out

Frank Lampard will have to make team selection decisions after he confirmed (via The Mail) N’Golo Kante is not available for Premier League clash against Norwich City.

The 74% possession Chelsea had in their 3-0 loss to Sheffield United suggested they are missing the midfield engine.

Jorginho returned to the starting line-up but having two attacking No.8s in Mason Mount and Ross Barkley meant the Italy international had a bigger defensive responsibility which was arguably too heavy for him.

He was often outpaced and outmuscled in midfield, winning just three out of nine duels and lost the possession eleven times throughout the game.

Lampard is not exactly full of options, however, with Kante and Billy Gilmour ruled out for this match.

One tweak Lampard could make is to provide more protection for Jorginho by reducing the other two midfielders’ licence to roam.

Lampard could also rest some his players, particularly the likes of Christian Pulisic, Willian, Mason Mount and Cesar Azpilicueta who have featured in every game since the Premier League resumption.

The Blues will also face Manchester United in the FA Cup semifinal on Sunday.

This is how Chelsea could line-up against Norwich:

Arrizabalaga

James – Tomori – Zouma – Alonso

Loftus-Cheek – Jorginho – Kovacic

Willian – Giroud – Hudson-Odoi

Lampard may opt for Rudiger or Christensen if he deems Tomori is not fit enough to play, while he might also start Hudson-Odoi to give Willian and Pulisic some rest.
