Willian has made over 200 league appearances for Chelsea. He has scored 30 goals and won several titles in his six years with the club. However, is his time at Chelsea up?
The Brazilian has had his fair share of criticism in recent years. Some fans feel that he does not provide enough of a goal threat to deserve a regular starting spot.
Barcelona have allegedly revived their interest in him in recent weeks. It now seems that another European giant may be interested in the winger. Italian news source Tuttosport are reporting that the Juventus director of football Fabio Paratici has inquired about Willian’s future.
His current contract expires in 2020 and the Italian giants are hoping that they will be able to secure the Brazilian’s signature for free.
However, Chelsea may look to renew Willian’s contract after an impressive start to the season. The form of the veteran has been rejuvenated under Lampard, and he seems to be the preferred choice on the right side of the attack.
It may well rest on the decision regarding the club’s transfer ban. If the Blues are permitted to make moves in the January transfer window, there is a chance they will target a right-sided attacker. Hakim Ziyech and Jadon Sancho are just two of the names that have been mentioned.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard already has several wingers at his disposal. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are much younger than Willian and will only get better as they are given more game time.
If another young winger were to be brought in, the Brazilian’s minutes would be further limited and he may look to move elsewhere to secure regular football.
