Jason Cundy has reacted to Chelsea's win against Rennes in the Champions League
Chelsea are preparing to host Sheffield United on Saturday in the Premier League and they go into the final fixture before the international break with plenty of momentum.
Blues manager Frank Lampard has watched his side turn a corner in recent times to start gelling together and it was another impressive display on Wednesday night in the Champions League group stages.
Timo Werner (two) and Tammy Abraham scored goals at Stamford Bridge in a 3-0 victory against French side Rennes.
It was two Chelsea forwards that delivered in front of goal in midweek and there is some real firepower in the final third within the squad, but positive results have been largely hinged on the new-look defence starting to excel.
Jason Cundy reacted to his former club’s performance in Europe and feels everything is starting to click into gear, albeit he wasn’t prepared to go over the top with his praise.
“It was a good performance from Chelsea. I’m not getting carried away because it was Rennes. The clean sheet and the victory you can’t be more satisfied than that. [Edouard] Mendy pulled off a good save. Chelsea just seem to be slowly but surely finding their way into a pattern and looking more assured at the back,” Cundy told talkSPORT (10:20pm, 4 November).
It looks like a straight shootout between Chelsea and Sevilla for top spot in the Champions League group barring any dramatic results, so it’s no surprise to see Lampard name a strong XI and finishing top can be so crucial when it comes to the draw for the knockout rounds.
