Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink makes Premier League title claim about Chelsea

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has claimed that he doesn’t view Chelsea as challengers for the Premier League title this season, urging people to give them time to continue developing with a fairly young group of players.

The Blues do have some proven senior stars in the squad such as N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta, but there is a real youthful look to most line-ups selected by manager Frank Lampard.

Ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, Lampard’s side are sixth in the league table and they will move just four points off the top with a win.

But they go into the match off the back of one win in their last five league games and the pressure is building.

Hasselbaink has given his verdict on the current position of the Chelsea team:

“I said a couple of months back Chelsea aren’t contenders and people reacted to it, but I still don’t think they are. They are building. Let them build,” Hasselbaink told the Daily Mail.

The Chelsea group certainly shouldn’t be thinking about what they can or can’t achieve this season, as right now they need to focus on the next game and ending a poor run of form.

If the talented group of players start to really tick, then they should fly up the league standings and that should take care of itself.

A title challenge still can’t be ruled out due to the way every teams appears to be slipping up, but it should be the last thing on Lampard’s mind right now and his team will need to be at their best to beat Man City.
