Joe Cole was left waxing lyrical about Christian Pulisic on Wednesday night, as he made an excellent cameo performance from the bench in the 4-0 victory over Russian club Krasnodar.
The American attacker entered the action with a little under 20 minutes to go when the Blues were 1-0 up in the Champions League group stage fixture, teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring the opener in the first-half.
Pulisic made an instant impact by winning a penalty for his team that was dispatched by Timo Werner, while Hakim Ziyech netted shortly after with his first goal on his first start for the club.
The 22-year-old then got on the scoresheet himself with his powerful shot on the swivel that went through the goalkeeper and it was the type of impact manager Frank Lampard will have wanted to help secure three points away from home.
He’s now starting to get back to his very sharpest after returning from injury and his dazzling cameo should have supporters excited.
Ex-Blues star Cole was in awe of Pulisic’s impact against Krasnodar and hailed his importance at Stamford Bridge.
“This lad is a real talent. It’s been a miss at the start of the season not having him,” Cole told BT Sport 3 (19:50pm, 28 October).
“I’d argue he’s one of the most important players in Chelsea’s attacking third. He can do everything Pulisic. He can dribble, he can run without the ball, he gets in and scores goals.
Many outsiders will look in at Chelsea and pick out one of the club’s incredible summer signings as their talisman, but there are plenty within the Blues camp that know just how important Pulisic is and will feel the team should be built around him.
The rapid left-winger was pivotal in the club securing a top-four finish last season and he was showing the kind of form that made him impossible for defenders to handle.
