Joe Cole was left raving about Chelsea centre-forward Tammy Abraham after his latest performance on Saturday.
The 23-year-old scored yet again for the Blues, as they secured a 2-0 away victory at Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Federico Fernandez’s own goal put Frank Lampard’s side ahead early in the contest and Chelsea dominated the ball throughout, creating a host of goalscoring chances that they continued to miss.
But Abraham scored a vital second during the second-half, as he was slipped in by teammate Timo Werner and he stayed composed with a low finish that went in off the post.
Abraham hasn’t been a nailed-on starter so far this season, but he found some brilliant form before the international break and his strike against Newcastle means he’s now got five goals and five assists already in all competitions.
Ex-Blues star Cole singled the England international out for his latest contribution:
“Tammy has done fantastic to get in this team because people would’ve just assumed that Werner would come in,” Cole told BT Sport 1 (2:38pm, 21 November).
“He picks up these positions, he gives you something different, he attacks the ball, he’s obsessed with scoring goals, his attitude is brilliant. If you look at Tammy and his game he’s always arriving, sometimes he gets it right and sometimes he don’t. And he’s always improving.”
Abraham has shown great character to make himself a starter at Chelsea in recent games and it’s going to be very hard for the manager to drop him, regardless of the fact Christian Pulisic is close to a return from injury.
He gives the team a physical presence to spearhead the attack and he’s excellent at bringing others into play around him.
