Chelsea have confirmed that Christian Pulisic has begun taking individual fitness work after previously suffering a series of setbacks during his injury recovery.

The 23-year-old suffered an ankle injury when playing for the United States in early September and has yet to feature for Chelsea since.

During a press conference before the Malmo win last week, Thomas Tuchel clarified that Pulisic had some setbacks from pain, but not from a major injury or complications.

“These players with quick movements like Christian, once they feel this pain, and they are not free in the movement, the recovery is not happening,” the German told the media.

“You start all over again, and you start all over again, and you reach a certain point and the pain comes back.

“And you have to do a little pause and start all over again.”

The Blues have now provided an update on the winger’s injury recovery via the club’s 5th Stand app.

“Pulisic was in action at Cobham as he returned to the training field away from the main group to conduct some individual fitness work,” the article on the team’s preparation for the Southampton clash mentioned.

Kante back but Lukaku and Werner still out for Chelsea

The club also confirmed that N’Golo Kante took part in full training.

Tuchel recently admitted that he decided not to play the energetic midfielder in Saturday’s win over Norwich City against the player’s wishes.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, however, are still recovering from their respective injury, and therefore unlikely to feature against the Saints.
