Kepa Arrizabalaga has come under scrutiny for his recent performances, with some Chelsea fans remaining unconvinced on the young Spaniard. However, last night he was officially named as one of the top 10 goalkeepers in the world.

He has previously held the title of having the lowest save percentage in the Premier League and has made a number of errors that have made people question his long-term position in the starting team.

Last night, at the Ballon D’or awards, Kepa was shortlisted for the ‘Yashin Trophy’. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson won the award and the Chelsea keeper was in good company in the top 10.

The other candidates included the likes of Manuel Neuer, Jan Oblak, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. After winning the Europa League and performing well in his first season in England, Kepa would have been hoping to push on this season and take Chelsea to new heights under Frank Lampard.

There is a number of goalkeepers Chelsea could look to bring in if Kepa continues to go downhill. However, he deserves time to regain his form. In the 1-0 defeat to West Ham, he kept the Blues in the game with a string of fine saves late on, including an impressive double stop.

Perhaps the award shortlist will serve as a reminder of Kepa’s previous form and his clear potential. Chelsea fans will be hoping he is back to his best soon.
