Frank Lampard has reminded Chelsea players about the rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash.
Not only it will be a derby against London rivals, it is also a match against the current Premier League leaders.
As things stand, Spurs have a two-point lead over Chelsea who currently occupy third place with 18 points.
A win at Stamford Bridge at the weekend would really be a confidence boost for Lampard’s men and could even establish them in the title race discussion.
While Chelsea will have a couple of extra days rest, Lampard insisted that Tottenham have the quality to rest their players for the weekend clash.
“First is rest, because we have to travel back,” Lampard told Chelsea TV on Tuesday when asked about the team’s preparation for the London Derby.
“I know Tottenham play on Thursday [versus Ludogorets in the Europa League] but it’s at home and I think it’s quite a comfortable fixture for them on paper and they might make some changes.
“We need to recover and prepare for [a game] against a team with a really good form.
“Tottenham are up there, above us at the moment. We know the rivalry and the players [will have] to play like the fans will feel when they sit at home.”
In another interview, Mount also had his say about the upcoming battle against Spurs.
“Everyone knows, the gaffer has made it very known how big of a game it is,” the midfielder told Chelsea TV.
“We’re going into the game with a confidence to win.
“We’re ready, we’re confident and ready to fight.”
