Loanees Recalled, January Departures, and Ballo Signed
Chelsea have recalled two young players from their loans. Midfielder Kasey Palmer has been recalled from Huddersfield, and Ike Ugo has been brought back to the club after a spell at Barnsley. Palmer spent last season on loan at Huddersfield, and helped the club earn promotion into the Premier League. Injuries, combined with new summer signings, has seen Palmer struggle for first-team football. Whereas, striker Ugbo returns to the Blues after featuring 18 times for Barnsley, mostly appearing from the bench. Ugbo netted once for the club. It is unclear whether either player will move again on loan this month, for remain at the club for the remainder of the season.
Michy Batshuayi and David Luiz will be allowed to leave the club in January, if they wish to do so, Antonio Conte has suggested. Both players have struggled for regular action this season, with Conte preferring Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard up front. The Belgian is said to be happy at the club, but wants regular football ahead of the World Cup in the summer. Whereas David Luiz started the season in the Italian’s plans, but was dropped in favour of Andreas Christensen, and has struggled to break back into the starting eleven. However, the Chelsea manager has stated that nobody will leave the club without a replacement being signed.
Chelsea have made their first signing of the January transfer window – 16-year-old striker Thierno Ballo. Reports in Austria say the Blues have agreed to sign the player from Viktoria Koln. Ballo has featured for Chelsea’s youth sides in friendlies, and scored five times in a 6-1 win over West Ham, and made his debut for the Austrian Under-17s side at only 14 years old. He signed a scholarship deal on his sixteenth birthday, and will feature for the club’s development side.
