Mario Melchiot was left frustrated on Twitter following Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United on Monday night.
The Blues suffered a 2-0 home loss at Stamford Bridge against United in the Premier League and it was a serious blow in the top four race.
Frank Lampard’s side remain fourth in the division standings, but are now only a point above Tottenham, two points above Sheffield United and three points above United.
Anthony Martial headed in the opener on the stroke of half-time, before Harry Maguire’s second-half header from a corner wrapped up three points for the visitors.
But Chelsea fans will be left highly frustrated by a number of key decisions in the game involving VAR.
Goalscorer Maguire was fortunate to avoid a red card when he kicked out on the floor at Michy Batshuayi.
Meanwhile, both Kurt Zouma and Olivier Giroud had goals chalked off in the second-half, the first for an alleged Cesar Azpilicueta push in the build-up and the second for a marginal offside.
Ex-Chelsea defender Melchiot shared his view on social media after his former side slipped to another defeat.
“The underdog came and ran away with the win. Willian was a pen. Azpilicueta got pushed first by Fred before he pushed. And I didn’t need 60 angles to look at it. Giroud needs to get a boot size 3. We walked right into the trap of waiting for a mistake,” Melchiot wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Chelsea have now recorded just one victory in their last six league matches and that has seen the chasing pack behind them completely close the gap to the Champions League positions.
It was a similar case of not taking goalscoring chances on Monday night, while the defensive frailties in dealing with set-pieces proved costly once again.
The Blues desperately need a response when they host Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on Saturday and know they will slip out of the top four with a defeat.
