Mark Lawrenson has predicted Chelsea to record a narrow 2-1 victory at the weekend in their Premier League showdown against London rivals Tottenham.
The Blues host Spurs at Stamford Bridge, as two of the in-form teams in the division meet.
Frank Lampard’s side sit third in the table with 18 points from nine games and the club’s summer signings are beginning to blend really well with their teammates.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs are sat top of the table above Liverpool on goal difference and both have a two-point cushion over Chelsea.
Chelsea have won the last three consecutive matches against their upcoming opponents, but Spurs did win earlier this season on penalties in a Carabao Cup tie between the teams.
BBC pundit Lawrenson has tipped home advantage at Stamford Bridge in his pre-match prediction and has suggested that Spurs’ tactics will crumble if they concede the opening goal.
“Spurs put on a Jose Mourinho masterclass when they beat Manchester City last weekend,” he told BBC Sport.
“It was a great performance and they are playing well, but I do feel with Tottenham that they have to score first for that gameplan to be successful.
“Chelsea always seem to get a lot of goals – they are the highest scorers in the Premier League this season – and I am not so sure Spurs will keep them out.”
Despite it only being the 10th game of the league season, this feels like a big chance for either team to put down a real marker in the title race and both are hoping they can be in the mix for the league crown.
Reigning champions Liverpool are very much still the team to beat, but the two London clubs have started well and are stacked with some world-class talent.
