Mateo Kovacic has arguably been Chelsea’s standout performer this season. The Croatian midfielder has put in some unbelievable performances and is a big part of a Blues side that has proven doubters wrong this season.
He has several qualities that make him an extremely effective player in the Premier League, but one statistic, in particular, shows just how gifted he is. Kovacic boasts an outstanding dribble success rate of 84.1% this season.
It is the best rate of success in the division and leaves him head and shoulders above the rest. Chelsea fans are all too aware of his ability to maneuver out of tight spots, but that statistic goes to show just how good he is with the ball at his feet.
The 25-year-old was the club’s only summer signing. Because of his loan deal last season, the Blues were able to sign him permanently despite the transfer ban. Questions were asked when the deal was completed about whether the club only signed him because he was the only option.
However, those questions have now been answered. Kovacic has become an integral part of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side and will continue to be for years to come. His ability to dribble past opposition players creates huge spaces for his teammates and is a key part of the way this Blues side play.
The former Real Madrid midfielder is also adding more goals and assists to his game. He has scored twice and provided three assists this season, more than his total for the entire campaign last year.
