Michy Batshuayi played 90 minutes for Chelsea’s development squad on Monday night, as he got some vital minutes under his belt.
The 25-year-old striker has been omitted from Frank Lampard’s squad in the opening two Premier League fixtures, with the duo of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud above him in the pecking order.
He was called into the Blues youth side for a Premier League 2 fixture against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, while senior defender Antonio Rudiger also stepped up his recovery from injury with some minutes.
Chelsea recorded a 3-0 home victory and Batshuayi managed to get on the scoresheet twice.
The Belgium international broke the deadlock just before half-time with a clipped finish and added another early in the second-half.
He posted on social media following his involvement with Chelsea’s development side and was pleased to get out on the pitch.
“Good for confidence. Let’s go Chelsea,” Batshuayi wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Batshuayi is certainly showing the right attitude, but it must be frustrating for him that he’s yet to get any first-team minutes.
His opportunity will surely come if he remains patient and some feel he’s the most natural finisher at the club.
The striker impressed during loans at Valencia and Crystal Palace last season, but has a sizeable task trying to break into Lampard’s XI.
A selection of Blues fans hailed him for his professionalism and believe he should be in with a chance of featuring against Norwich City in the next Premier League match.
Here are some Chelsea fans responding to Batshuayi’s tweet:
You deserve to start against Norwich bro
