Edouard Mendy and Mason Mount praised each other after qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages with a 2-1 win over Rennes on Tuesday.
The home team really made Chelsea work for the win, but the Blues secured the win and Frank Lampard managed to rest some of his key players ahead of Sunday’s big game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Both Mendy and Mount played big parts in the victory.
Playing against his former teammates, Mendy made a few important saves in the second half, while the latter provided the assist for Callum Hudson-Odoi’s strike.
“He [Mendy] has been brilliant ever since he came in,” Mount told Chelsea TV after the game.
“Not just on the pitch, [but also[ off the pitch.
“Always smiling, a big presence around the group and when he plays in the goal. Long may that continue.”
Mendy, who stood beside Mount and kept smiling during the interview, also had his say about the midfielder.
“In the past, I saw Mason and I thought he’s a really good player,” said the 28-year-old who seemed to be more comfortable with his English.
“I’m very proud to play with him and today we can see his talent.”
Asked whether he is enjoying his time at Chelesa, Mendy added: “It’s very good thing to play for this club.
“I hope to continue like this.”
