New deal for Sarri, Bid for Icardi, and Barkley Back
New deal for Sarri
Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their search for a potential new manager to replace Antonio Conte in the summer – with Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri claiming he is close to signing a new deal with the Serie A club. Conte looks set to depart Stamford Bridge in the summer, and Sarri is one name being linked with the role. However, his recent comments suggest he isn’t about to swap Italy for England.
“The contract is there and we will have to make sure the conditions are agreed.
“The fans are great and I hope I can always give 100 per cent. If I am not able to do that then I will have to take a step back. Otherwise, I can go on.
“I feel a big debt to the fans and the only way I can repay it is to give my best.”
Bid for Icardi
Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea have made a bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. The Argentine has been in inspired form for the Serie A side this season, scoring 22 goals in 24 league appearances. His fine goal scoring form has led to interest from the Blues, who have reportedly tabled a bid of around £52 million for the 25-year-old. The fee is set to be rejected by the Italian side, and Icardi could sign a new deal at the San Siro. It is understood that Chelsea aren’t the only side interested in the striker, with Real Madrid also keeping tabs on him, and could also make a move this summer.
Ross Barkley is set to resume full training next week, as he attempts to put the injuries that have hampered the start of his Chelsea career behind him. After the Englishman made the £15 million move from Everton in January, Barkley has struggled with a hamstring injury which kept him out for many months at the start of the season. The 24-year-old has made three appearances for Antonio Conte’s side, and will hope to play an influential part in the rest of the season as Chelsea continue in their fight for a top four finish.
