Ross Barkley has endured a tough season at Chelsea so far. He has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot and reports now suggest that West Ham are interested in a loan deal.
The Mirror has claimed that David Moyes is seeking a reunion with the England midfielder, who he managed at Everton. The Blues should consider accepting the loan offer, and here is why.
Frank Lampard has already got a wide range of midfielders to choose from. The club is blessed in that area and Barkley does not offer anything different. He is also 26-years-old. The Blues boss would be better off promoting a young talent like Mason Mount or bringing in a new attacking midfielder like Dani Olmo.
The Dinamo Zagreb man has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea (Daily Mail) and offers a potential that Barkley does not. The English midfielder has not impressed when given the chance and also got himself in some off the field trouble earlier in the season.
He has started just six Premier League games and if Lampard signs another midfielder this month, Barkley will surely be deemed surplus to requirements. Conor Gallagher could make the step up to the first team next season and will make opportunities even harder to come by.
It would be a beneficial move for both the player and the club. Barkley will get the first-team opportunities he needs to potentially make Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad, and Chelsea will free up a midfield spot for a younger talent to make their mark.
