Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu was given an exciting loan move in the summer. RB Leipzig offered him the chance to go to Germany in an attempt to get some first-team football and develop into the player many are hoping he can become.
However, the German club has limited Ampadu’s opportunities massively and he is getting no more minutes there than he would in Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side. He has made just two substitute Bundesliga appearances this season.
Bristol Live has reported that Bristol City are showing late interest in a loan move for the young Welshman. However, the difficulty is that his parent club did not insert a recall option in his loan contract.
The 19-year-old, who can play in defence and holding midfield, is growing frustrated with his lack of chances in Germany and wants to come back to the club and reassess. Chelsea should do everything they can to bring him back this month before moving him onto another English club for the rest of the season.
A Championship club like City would provide Ampadu with the perfect chance to get some senior minutes under his belt before the end of the season. He has already made 13 appearances for the Wales national team and has been tipped by many as one of the Blues top young talents.
He will simply not develop to his full potential if he stays at a club that is not giving him opportunities. Leipzig are currently top of the Bundesliga and will not want to take any chances by giving Ampadu minutes. Frank Lampard must do all he can to freshen things up for the youngster before the window closes.
