Chelsea have been linked with several strikers this month and it seems that there are now just two possibilities before the deadline on Friday. Edinson Cavani and Krzysztof Piatek are the remaining names being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but who should the Blues prioritise?
AC Milan striker Piatek was reportedly offered to Chelsea this week if they are willing to pay £25 million for his signature (Mail). The 24-year-old has lost his starting spot at the Italian club and could be ready for a new challenge for the rest of the season.
Experienced PSG man Cavani has also lost his place in the starting side this season and has requested a transfer this month (Sky Sports). The Blues have been linked with a loan deal for the Uruguayan (Times) but there is a chance he will choose a move to Atletico instead.
If both strikers are readily available, which would be the better option for Lampard for the rest of the season? Piatek has age on his side and was one of the best strikers in Europe last season. He scored 30 goals in 42 games in all competitions and knows where the goal is.
Cavani, who cost PSG £53m in 2013 (Goal), has experience on his side. has scored over 300 career goals and has played in several top European leagues. There is also the added chance that he will benefit the young talent currently coming through at Stamford Bridge.
Training with such a talented striker could do wonders for Abraham. If he can pick up on some of the traits that made Cavani such a deadly striker for so many years, the young Chelsea striker could reach a whole new level.
Although Piatek is showing promise, Lampard should do everything he can to bring Cavani in at Stamford Bridge on a short term deal.
