Chelsea have been linked with several midfielders since the opening of the January transfer window. Lampard is reportedly keen to add some creativity to the team’s midfield and could use Aston Villa’s interest in Michy Batshuayi to their advantage.

Jack Grealish has impressed for a struggling Villa side this campaign. He has scored six goals and provided five assists in 19 Premier League games this season.

Robbie Savage has previously encouraged the Blues to make a move for the 24-year-old, but the £80 million price tag seems too steep. However, if Batshuayi could be used as a makeweight in the deal, it could be a more tempting proposition.

Lampard does have an abundance of midfield options at his disposal already at the club. However, if he is not satisfied with the creative impetus they provide, Grealish could be a good option.

Batshuayi is looking more and more likely to leave the club this month. Villa are reportedly interested in his signature following the injury to Wesley and some sort of swap deal would make sense.

The Midlands club will not want to lose Grealish. He has been their star man this season and without his goal contributions, there is a heightened chance that the club will be returning to the Championship next season.

Chelsea should also remember the returning talent they have at the club. Ruben-Loftus Cheek is on the comeback trail and rising stars like Conor Gallagher and Tino Anjorin are yet to get their chance in the first team. Signing Grealish could block these young talents and might be a risky move.
