Chelsea’s midfield will lose arguably its most important player if N’Golo Kante moves on. The Sun has reported that the French midfielder is keen on a move to Real Madrid in the summer, which would be a huge blow for the Blues.

If that is the case, they need to start searching for a replacement as soon as possible. Kante may prove to be an irreplaceable asset, but here are three options that Lampard should consider.

Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure has continued to put in impressive performances this season despite Watford’s substandard start. He has been a big reason behind the club’s turnaround, which has seen them move out of the relegation zone.

A player who is strong in the tackle, powerful and can drive with the ball, Doucoure would replace Kante well in the Chelsea side and comes with a great level of versatility. He is comfortable in a box-to-box or more defensive-minded role and would certainly soften the blow. His Premier League experience makes him a very interesting option.

Similarly to Doucoure, Ndidi’s Premier League experience makes him an enticing target. He is crucial to a Leicester side exceeding all expectations this season. The 23-year-old is similarly vital in the Foxes midfield to how Kante was in the 15/16 season.

Leicester will certainly not want to let him go, but Chelsea could be in the money if they do sell Kante. They could make the club an offer that is just too tempting to turn down.

Amadou Diawara

The final player on this list, and the only one not currently playing in England, is Roma’s Amadou Diawara. The 22-year-old only moved to the club last summer but has already earned rave reviews in Rome.

His playing style is very similar to that of Kante. His interceptions are excellent and he is the kind of player that seems to pop up all over the pitch. Also, at just 22-years-old, he will come a long way in the next few years and could go on to become one of the best in Europe in his position.

Losing Kante will be a difficult thing for Chelsea to recover from. They should do everything they can to keep him at Stamford Bridge. However, if he is set on a move away, one of the above players should be considered in filling the void left by the Frenchman.
