Our view: Why Chelsea should consider making no statement signings this month

Chelsea have been linked with several big-money moves this month. A patchy period of form has led to questions being asked about the young Blues side and new additions have been mooted. But would it be necessary? Here is why Chelsea should consider making no big signings this month.

No one expected Lampard’s young side to be in the position they are at this stage of the season. The Blues are sat comfortably in fourth place in the Premier League and have qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League. They are also still in the FA Cup and have proven many doubters wrong this season.

Despite some results causing concern, the overall outcome has been positive. The influx of young talent at Stamford Bridge has worked wonders for the club and made them a likable outfit. Not only this, but the numerous academy graduates are proving that trusting your own can be the best way forward.

The Chelsea team is full of players who grew up playing together which makes for an atmosphere that cannot be created through big-money signings. Lampard looks to have found the perfect mixture of experience and raw talent to create a team that can prove to be extremely effective.

Things have not been perfect, but they were never going to be. Yes, signing a Jadon Sancho or Kalidou Koulibaly would improve the Chelsea team. However, a big-money move like that could prove to upset a harmonious dressing room and limit how far the young Blues can go.

Further to this, players come at a premium in January. Lampard and this young Chelsea side deserve a full season to show what they can do. If there are clear problems come the end of the season, then look to invest. Doing it in January is a risky strategy and could cause more problems than it fixes.
