Paul Merson explains why Erling Haaland would suit Chelsea, amid reports

Paul Merson has claimed that Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland would suit Chelsea.

The Blues have already been linked with the bullish centre-forward, who has seen his reputation soar dramatically in the past year.

He’s scored 22 times in 22 games across all competition this season, with 14 goals coming in the Bundesliga league matches.

According to the Daily Mail last month, the 20-year-old is a main target for Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Haaland is already regarded as one of the best young players in the world and is scoring at a goal-a-game ratio this campaign.

The left-footed striker also looked a natural fit for the English game, as he’s strong, quick, athletic and great in the air.

Merson has suggested that the Norway international is an ideal Chelsea target.

“Of all the teams who are in for Erling Haaland, Chelsea are the ones who need him most,” Merson told the Daily Star.

“They have always been successful with someone who has a presence up front and Haaland has that. He’s going to score bundles wherever he goes.

“And if you buy him this summer, you still have the prospect of being able to sell him for a profit later down the line because of his age.”

The Chronicle View

Didier Drogba and Diego Costa are two players that will spring to the minds of Chelsea fans when asked to think about the club’s best strikers in the 21st century.

Both were dominant forwards at Stamford Bridge, as they were huge characters not he pitch and the type of powerful strikers that defences hated facing.

There is a feeling that whoever signs Haaland could be landing someone that will be world class for the next 10 years.
