Paul Merson has explained how he’s seriously impressed by Chelsea’s Mason Mount by raving about his individual quality.
Mount, who earns £88,000-a-week (Spotrac), is a Blues academy graduate that is growing in stature by the week at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old is already in some people’s opinion the standout player in the first-team squad, as he starts to really win over his manager Thomas Tuchel.
If you need further proof of his importance, then it’s worth noting he’s now a nailed-on starter on the international stage with Gareth Southgate’s England.
Chelsea-supporting pundit Merson has highlighted Mount’s real composure with the ball at his feet. He claims that the creative playmaker is so crisp and accurate with his passing.
“He’s the go-to man now, and that’s phenomenal at his age. He carries the team,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“Watch him when he passes it. It gets there. He makes sure. He doesn’t over-complicate things. And he’s clever.”

Mount may have made his midweek goal in the Champions League against Porto look simple, as he produced a touch to turn away from a defender before firing into the bottom corner. But it was a sublime piece of skill.
He’s scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season to prove he’s getting better in that aspect of his game.
As for being a creative spark, he’s the most influential in the final third for Chelsea on a regular basis.
Tuchel has preferred to use him in a more attacking midfield position further up the pitch, something which is helping his goalscoring influence flourish.
