Paul Merson has predicted that Chelsea may try get rid of Timo Werner this summer, suggesting he could be used in a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.
Werner, 25, joined the Blues last year, and has had an intriguing first season in English football.
The £170,000 (Spotrac) attacker has scored just 10 goals in 39 games across all competitions, which is a lot less then most expected following his incredible form at ex-club RB Leipzig.
Pundit Merson has guessed that Chelsea could try offload Werner at the end of the season, and that it makes sense to try use him in a makeweight deal.
According to ESPN, Thomas Tuchel’s side feel they could manage to tempt 20-year-old Haaland to Stamford Bridge.
He’s a world-class striker with 31 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.
“I think Chelsea will sign a proper striker this summer and I think they will use him as a makeweight,” Merson wrote in the Daily Star.
“It makes sense to offer him to Borussia Dortmund as part of a deal for Erling Haaland.
“Dortmund will need a replacement if they sell Haaland and Werner is ready-made and proven in the Bundesliga. He would probably appeal to them.”

Whether Chelsea can get Haaland or not in the summer, they should do everything to try.
The opportunity to sign someone of his ability may not come around too often, as he’s already a megastar at his young age.
But giving up on Werner after just a year would be a crying shame.
If he can just be more clinical in front of goal like he’s been in the past, the speedster can be a real asset for the Chelsea team and his versatility means he can play in central or wide forward positions.
