Chelsea supporters got a good chuckle after seeing Jurgen Klopp’s reaction towards a tender moment between Thomas Tuchel and Mason Mount last night.

It was like a father-son scene, full of gratitude, following Mount’s goal that ensured a 1-0 Premier League win for Chelsea over Liverpool.

In the background of this emotional act was the forlorn figure of Klopp, who had just witnessed his side lose an unprecedented fifth consecutive home match.

He watched on as Tuchel and Mount shared a moment of celebration, which was quickly picked up by Chelsea fans.

Klopp could hardly be blamed for exuding jealousy towards Mount and Tuchel’s embrace.

Liverpool shot down to seventh place after that defeat and now face the daunting possibility of missing out on a top-four spot.

Meanwhile, Chelsea cruised into Champions League contention, which didn’t appear feasible when Tuchel took over just over a month ago.

The turn around has been quite special.

Ten games unbeaten, just two goals conceded and a re-energised squad that seemed down on its knees.

This is something Liverpool could only dream of pulling together, as their title defence shatters into a thousand pieces.

There was some poetic justice in Chelsea’s victory last night.

Tuchel has often been stranded in Klopp’s managerial shadow because of their similar footballing pathways and German heritage.

But he took one giant step into the sunlight by overcoming his compatriot yesterday, as the grey clouds begin to part over Stamford Bridge.
