Chelsea defender Reece James admitted Manchester United’s failure to pick up three points against Southampton helped the Blues ahead of their match against Norwich City.
Chelsea have kept their third place despite losing to Sheffield United as both Leicester City and Man United both failed to capitalise their chances.
Leicester City lost 1-4 to Bournemouth while Michael Obafemi’s last-minute equaliser meant Southampton and Man United had to share the points.
Given their good run recently, it was a shock how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are still not in the top four at the moment, but certainly a pleasant one, according to Chelsea defender James.
The 20-year-old told Chelsea’s official website: “That was a little boost for us going into this game against Norwich.
“After losing 3-0 [to Sheffield United], no one is going to be happy. It was a chance to take a step closer to finishing in the top four and we weren’t able to do it.
“I have to say Sheffield United were very good on the day and were hard to break down. We need to bounce back from such a difficult game and go again against Norwich.”
Speaking about facing Norwich, James said it would be one of Chelsea’s biggest games of the season.
“They are obviously a little bit down at the moment, they have just been relegated, and we need to finish the season strongly and cement our top-four position,” he added.
