Report: £110k-a-week Chelsea star set to sign a new contract
Thiago Silva has finally put to bed the uncertainties over his future at Chelsea by signing a one-year contract extension, according to the le10 Sport.
Chelsea had been eager to secure the Brazilian’s services for another season, prompted by his excellent impact after arriving from Paris Saint Germain last summer.
Silva hasn’t featured for the Blues in nearly two months after suffering a thigh strain against Tottenham Hotspur.
Up until that injury, the 36-year-old had been one of the more consistent performers in an error-prone defence.
No such issues have occurred under Thomas Tuchel, who’s turned the Blues into an almost impenetrable fortress.
Almost all of their 11 clean sheets have been achieved without Silva as he continues to watch on from the side-lines.
However, his significance stretches beyond that of just being on the pitch.
Images of him wildly celebrating Chelsea’s Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid from the stands proved his affection towards the club.
Silva was also spotted barking out orders to his teammates, which was easily heard within Stamford Bridge’s empty stadium.
That kind of leadership is beneficial to any dressing room and one Chelsea could certainly use if they are to push on for titles with Tuchel.
The £110,000 (Spotrac) defender may have to manage his minutes wisely over the next few months, but the Blues won’t mind as long as he’s on board.

This could almost be like a new signing, which is ironic because Chelsea reportedly want to make a new signing at centre-back.
It’s clear how Silva lifts those around him and makes them better.
Even if another player does come in, they could learn so much from the veteran and improve in doing so.
