Barcelona are reportedly preparing yet another bid for Chelsea winger Willian. Sky Sports are claiming that the Catalan giants are set to make a last-minute £20 million bid for the Brazilian, who is out of contract in the summer.

Talks with Willian over a new contract have not proven easy for the Blues. He wants the assurances of at least a two-year deal, while the club has a general policy of not giving players over 30-years-old more than a year at a time.

This has led to several clubs circling for his signature, either on a pre-contract deal or for a fee this month. Barcelona, who are long term admirers of the 31-year-old, appear keen to do all they can to secure his services this month.

Quique Setien needs some attacking reinforcements at the Camp Nou after Luis Suarez was ruled out for some time with a knee injury. Willian could provide additional depth on either side of a front three, with one of the current wingers playing a possible deep-lying forward role.
Barcelona made several approaches for the Brazilian in 2018 but saw them all rejected by the Blues. Lampard will not want to lose an important player in his Chelsea squad in the middle of the season, especially when his side are struggling for creativity as it is.

The Blues have seriously struggled for attacking creativity in recent weeks and losing a winger who has started the majority of games this season will not help with that. It is too late in the window to find a suitable replacement, and the club would be better off losing him for nothing in the summer.
That would give them time to sign a suitable signing to step into Willian’s shoes rather than deplete the squad in the middle of an important campaign.
