Report: Chelsea agreed unfavourable terms to enable Loftus-Cheek’s Fulham loan
Chelsea are reportedly paying more than half of Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s wages during the midfielder’s season-long loan spell at Fulham.
With six additions to their first team this summer, trimming the squad was always going to be high on the club’s agenda.
However, following transfer window deadline day, Frank Lampard still has five centre-backs and three left-backs at his disposal. It’s safe to say Chelsea had a hard time offloading their players, despite a few early loan deals.
It even got to the point where the club had to reportedly compromise its principles when it came to Loftus-Cheek.
According to a report from the Evening Standard, Chelsea will pay more than half the 24-year-old’s salary, which is said to be north of £100,000 a week.
Chelsea have been said to only agree to loan a player to another Premier League team if the club agrees to pay the entire wage packet.
The report mentioned West Ham and Southampton, who also expressed interested in Loftus-Cheek in the transfer window, were put off by this demand, which would also include additional loan fees.
Fortunately for Loftus-Cheek, however, the club put his interest over monetary gain and agreed to let him get an opportunity to play regular football at Fulham despite the unfavourable terms.
