Chelsea chiefs Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia are reportedly keen on making a statement signing this month. Transfer expert Duncan Castles has reported on the Transfer Window podcast that those involved at Stamford Bridge feel that a big move needs to be made in January.
After the transfer ban was lifted, Chelsea fans will have been hoping for a flurry of activity once the window opened. However, the Blues have been quiet so far and are yet to make any additions. Some fans have become frustrated with the lack of activity, but it seems that could change in the coming weeks.
A whole host of potential incomings have been rumoured this month. Castles suggested that the area the Blues are set on strengthening most is the wide positions. Pedro and Willian are undoubtedly coming towards the end of their Chelsea careers and the club wants to sign a world-class replacement.
The obvious player that fits the bill is Jadon Sancho. He would certainly be a statement signing and links with the Blues have been ever-present in recent weeks. The Telegraph reported that Chelsea were favourites to land his signature but Sky Sports have since claimed that Dortmund will not let him go in January.
If Sancho is to be the statement signing that Chelsea chiefs seek, they will have to wait until the summer. However, it will definitely be an addition worth waiting for. The Dortmund winger is one of the best young talents in football and could take the Blues back to the very top.
