Chelsea are reportedly set to be offered the chance to take Krzysztof Piatek from under the noses of London rivals Tottenham. The Daily Mail has claimed that the player’s agents have offered the Blues the chance to sign the 24-year-old forward.
Piatek was in blistering form last season and was earning rave reviews all around Europe. He scored 30 goals in 42 games for Genoa and then AC Milan after making a January move across Italy. The Polish striker quickly became one of Europe’s most highly-rated youngsters.
However, this season, he has not hit the same heights and could be on the move again. Piatek has scored just five goals in 19 appearances this campaign and is not looking as lethal as he did last year.
An approach from Chelsea will only materialise if the club can offload Olivier Giroud, who has been heavily linked with a move to Milan’s city rivals Inter (Sky Sports). Since the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Piatek’s opportunities at the San Siro have diminished, and he could be keen on a move.
Our view – Piatek could be the striker Chelsea need
Chelsea are in need of a striker that will score goals and create chances. Piatek proved last season that he is a deadly striker that will score goals when given the chances.
Playing in a team less disjointed than Milan could help the 24-year-old regain last season’s electric form. Class is permanent, and if Lampard can get the best out of Piatek, he could prove to be a snip at £25 million.
