Chelsea will reportedly hold contract talks with young midfielder Conor Gallagher amid reported interests from several Premier League clubs.
The 20-year-old had a fairly successful season in the Championship where he had two loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City in the first half and second half of the season, respectively.
The last year’s Chelsea academy player of the year made 47 appearances for both Charlton and Swansea and raked a total of six goals and eight assists.
It is not a surprise that he is wanted by Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, Leeds United and Aston Villa among others, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The report also added that Chelsea are planning to hold contract talks with the starlet whose deal expires in 2022, as they are leaning towards sending him on another loan spell rather than cashing in this summer.
Despite Gallagher’s impressive displays, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has already had plenty of options for centre and attacking midfield roles such as Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
In addition to that, Chelsea are reportedly are pursuing Bayer Leverkusen’s versatile star Kai Havertz.
Compared to being a squad player with limited minutes on the pitch, leaving on another loan spell would arguably be better for Gallagher’s development.
