Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic could miss the start of the Premier League new campaign as he will reportedly be out for up to five weeks due to injury.
The 21-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal, along with two of his teammates Cesar Azpilicueta (hamstring) and Pedro Rodriguez (shoulder).
Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard ruled out Pulisic for their trip to Germany for their Champions League match against Bayern Munich this weekend.
“Christian looked bad. They’ll be out next week, for sure,” he told the club’s official website.
And not just for the Bayern game, according to a report from the talkSPORT, the American will be out for four to five weeks.
This could rule him out for their pre-season preparations (if any) and possibly the start of the Premier League new season on September 12 which is about five weeks away.
Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner’s arrivals would soften the blow, but with both of this season’s wingers Willian and Pedro likely to leave the club, Pulisic’s absence could be a big miss for the Blues.
Pulisic himself has sent a message on social media after the cup final defeat.
“Gave it everything we had, [but it] wasn’t our day,” he wrote on his Instagram account.
“Thank you guys for your support. I’ll be back in no time.”
