Chelsea’s move for Edinson Cavani could depend on the future of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Foot Mercato have reported that PSG are lining up the 30-year-old as a replacement for the wantaway striker and could only let him go if they secure a sufficient successor.
The French side have reportedly met with Aubameyang’s representatives and are keen to secure a loan move for the remainder of the season. If they can secure a deal, it would surely be the end of Cavani’s time in the capital.
It would be good news for Frank Lampard, who would then be in a good position to bring the Uruguayan in at Stamford Bridge. The Times has reported that Chelsea were set to make a loan offer for the 32-year-old until the end of the season.
His wage demands of £360,000-a-week make a deal difficult but the Blues boss is extremely keen on bringing in someone this month to bolster his attack. Lampard has hinted that he is looking for short-term fixes to secure top four this season and a deal for the PSG striker would provide that.
He has an outstanding scoring record and would provide extremely fierce competition for Tammy Abraham. Arsenal are unlikely to be keen on losing their star-man and will be even less inclined to do so if it indirectly helps Chelsea secure a top target.
The Blues are desperate for attacking reinforcements and need to be more clinical in the final third. Saturday evening’s win against Hull was another game that should have been more comfortable than it was. Lampard’s side struggled to get a third goal and put the game beyond the Championship side. Cavani would give the club a deadly option off the bench and would seriously strengthen their attack.
