Andreas Christensen is reportedly close to signing a new deal to extend his stay at Chelsea.

According to The Sun, the 25-year-old has finalised talks with Chelsea about a fresh contract that’ll be worth around £120,000-a-week. This deal is now being rubber stamped before an official announcement by the club.

It is understood that the defender was touted for an exit from Stamford Bridge 18 months ago, plus he had previously been offered a new deal which was lower than his current £78,000-a-week wage.

However, the report explains that he’s now considered integral to Thomas Tuchel’s plans, so will be rewarded with this improved contract.

Christensen is going from strength to strength as he develops his game as a centre-back. His positioning now looks spot on, plus he’s a calming influence in possession at the back.

Tuchel called him “fantastic” last month and is clearly a big fan after starting him in four of the opening five Premier League games this season.

A new Andreas Christensen contract is a no-brainer

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, it’s imperative that Chelsea lock down the future of Christensen.

He’s always had massive potential during his first-team career with the Blues, but the difference is he’s now delivering consistent top-class performances each game.

There are going to be times when the manager rotates due to the quality options available to him at centre-half.

However, Denmark international Christensen looks like he can be a core part of the defence moving forward during the next few years.
