Report: Henry Lawrence set to sign new Chelsea contract

Highly-rated Chelsea youngster Henry Lawrence is reportedly set to sign a new three-year contract with the club in the next few days.

The versatile 19-year-old has been a regular in the senior team’s training sessions in the past few months.

He has made the Champions League squadmultiple times already, including as an unusued bench player in the Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Bayern Munich, along with several other development squad players: Ian Maatsen, Dynel Simeu, Lewis Bate and Armando Broja.

Started his football career as a midfielder, Lawrence featured 30 times in various positions for the Chelsea development squad last season. Although, he earned his first professional contract in October last year after a series of good performances from the right-back position.

Goal reported back in September that Lawrence was close to signing a new contract before heading out on loan, but their Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella recently provided an updated report claiming the England U20s international will sign a new three-year contract in the next days.

For now, Lawrence is still with the development squad and could feature in the FA Youth Cup semifinal against Manchester United on Friday but with the January transfer window just over a couple of months away, a six-month loan spell could be on the cards.
