Olivier Giroud’s potential move to Inter Milan could be off as the Italian side progress with other attacking options. According to Sky Sports, Antonio Conte’s side have now begun talks with Napoli forward Fernando Llorente so have ended their interest in the Frenchman.
This will come as a big disappointment to Giroud, who was hoping for more first-team opportunities ahead of the European Championships this summer. The 33-year-old has not had many chances under Frank Lampard this season and is deemed surplus to requirements by the Chelsea boss.
As reported by The Daily Mail, Lampard has previously said on Giroud’s future: ”My answer remains the same as it has done recently and I have spoken with him. If the conditions are that it’s something Oli really wants to do and it works for the club and it works for me and the squad, then it’s something that could happen.”
These comments are pretty damning, and it seemed like Giroud’s departure was imminent. However, the change of heart by Inter leaves him out in the cold once again. A move away from the club remains the most beneficial option for the France international because he is currently third choice for the Blues.
French media outlet Le10 Sport has reported that Aston Villa remain keen on signing Giroud and could yet make a move before the end of the window.
There is no doubt that the experienced forward needs to move on this month. He is not good enough to lead the line for the Blues and if the club is successful in bringing in another forward, he will only slip further down the pecking order. It would be best for both parties if he moves on before the deadline.
